temperature and it will feel like summer. >> i love that. that is the best news i heard all day and i have been up an hour and a halfment let's go to the maps. we have issues with the a trains suspended between euclid and lefferts avenue. that should be taken care of by 5:00 a.m. long island railroad, metro north, new jersey transit are on or close. closure 80 near exit 4. the accident has been cleared and all lanes are reopened. street cleaning rules are in effect. lori, over to you. >> thank you. we are less than 12 hours away from pope francis arrival in the united states. >> he met with bishops in santiago, cuba. he prayed at the shrine of our lady of charity. in a few hours from now he will finish up the visit in cuba. pope francis is expected to land in our nation's capitol
around 4:00 this afternoon. >> in d.c., preparations are well underway at the basilica of the national shrine where pope francis will celebrate mass tomorrow afternoon. >> the excitement continues to grow at home along with boris on how who -- with worries on how to navigate the pontiff's stave. some commuters are hoping for define intervention. good morning, dray. >> reporter: good morning, guys. i'm sure a lot of people will be calling on the lord's name the next couple of days with the challenges we have to deal with. on thursday, where i am, this will perhaps be the most secure block in new york city, east 72nd between 5th and madison avenues. behind me is where pope francis will be staying on east 22nd. these concrete barriers will provide a baton rouge year for the block as well as armored vehicles and other police cars will be here in protection of
providing security for the pope is perhaps the biggest challenge the nypd has ever faced. nonetheless, they are ready and as are the other enforcement agencies. overnight eyewitness news was there as manholes were secured and sealed in areas where security will be very tight. also light fixtures were inspected and the base which have a compartment that can be opened were also sealed tightly. as of 1:00 this morning, the parking restrictions we have been telling you about are in effect. many people have already moved their cars. the nypd is prepared to tow any vehicles that may be parked in those restricted areas. we know providing security for pope francis is a tremendous challenge for everyone involved with his care and safety but mayor de blasio says they are prepared and they will approach the challenge with a great deal of confidence. >> no one is nervous.
they have the resources they need. they have the equipment, the personnel. it's a great deal of confidence. no one is underestimate going this is something we haven't experienced before. there is a tremendous can do attitude and we are confident. >> reporter: here is a look at a map which those areas in pink are the areas where the parking restrictions are in place and certainly where it will be tough to navigate the next couple of days when the pope arrives thursday. city officials are begging individuals that live in those areas are work in those areas for their patience as they do their best to provide security here for the pope. back live on the upper east side, the pope will be in new york city for roughly 48 hours but, again, it will be a very big job of providing security for him. another aspect of that as well, we know that the pope likes to

the driver is recovering in the hospital. no charges have been filed. we are seeing video of a melee outside the barkley center. several teens are under arrest. kala rama is live in downtown brooklyn with the story. good morning, kala. >> reporter: ken, good morning to you. hundreds of those kids after school gathered in the area of atlantic mall by the barclays center. what they did was watched another kid get beat up. they didn't do a thing. but someone grabbed the cell phone, tamed the hole thing and now this graphic and disturbing video has gone viral. take a look. you can see ten to 20 teens begin to pummel, stomp and assault another teen with what looks like a cane. that 16-year-old student from south shore high school wag stabbed in the stomach by another teen from jon jay high school. the teen has nonlife- threatening injuries and is in the hospital. three teens were taken into
what is just as disturbing is how many people are standing around watching without doing a thing. now log activists are calling for action urging the victims of these after school beat downs to press charges formally. we should mention that the cops did respond and when officers were here, one of those officers were sprayed in the face with mayes. they will be okay. but more charges are pending. live in brooklyn, kala rama, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you, kala. police have released new video showing a suspect in a gruesome murder of a cab driver in the bronx. investigators say that the gunman was wearing a red hooded sweater with light-colored shorts. this is about 1:30 yesterday morning. police say he shot cab by barry momadu. he was the father of three children with a fourth on the way. retired dennis star james blake is determined to use his
officer as a force for lasting change. blake met with -- met two hours yesterday with the mayor and police commissioner. blake is foaming over an undercover officer forcefully arresting him on 42nd street back on september 8th. they assured blake that they are going to take this false arrest case very seriously. >> the general theme of accountability making sure that we focus on that with the police officers. i feel like we made a lot of progress and we are pleasantly surprised. >> blake will meet again with the mayor and police commissioner. blake says he is content to led the administrative process deal with any action of the officer that through him to the ground. michael grimm heads to federal prison. he is scheduled to begin an 8 month sentence at a medium security prison in pennsylvania. he resigned last year after

with a northerly wind in here, it's kind of dry. that is -- most of these showers are drying out around sussex and warren county, ulster, sullivan and orange county. back to the west more of this high-pressure ridge which has clear skies. that will influence our weather into tomorrow and into the weekend and as we see the weekend coming, we will cool back down. today 74 because of the clouds. tomorrow this high-pressure ridge slides eastward and it gets warmer. >> autumn arrives at 4:21 in the morning. by afternoon it's 80 degrees. clouds and sun, i will call it cloudy, breaks of sun, cloudy skies. showers to the north and west will go away. then clearing and comfortable tonight. 50s in the suburbs. 60s in the five boroughs of long island. sunny and warmer with a high of 80. accuweather seven-day forecast, 80 on thursday. then friday we are at 76.

>> eyewitness news reporter rob nelson is live in washington, d.c. >> as you mate imagine, huge crowds and security considerations will lead to -- >> reporter: everybody is getting excited. this will be the most expensive security operation in american history. behind the welcome banners and crowd control barriers, the pope's five-day strift is strange law enforcement resources in d.c. and philadelphia. this has been classified as a rare national security event. in addition to religious services, the pope will visit the white house and and a parade on constitution avenue. there have been months of training, simulations and mock attacks. a security expert says the level of protection for pope francis equals or even exceeds the security around president obama. and that will mean disruptions. federal agencies in washington are encouraging employees to

one person escaped despite the flames shooting through the roof. it happened about 2:00 in the morning. firefighters were able to keep the flames from spreading to nearby homes close to that first house. nobody got hurt amazingly. investigators do not yet know how it started. new this morning, a huge group of teens get into a big fight outside of barclay's center. it got caught on camera. kala rama live in downtown brooklyn with the story for us. good morning, kala. >> good morning, ken. all those teens gathered in this area by barclays, the atlantic mall to watch a kid get beat up after school. instead of calling 911, a lot of those kids got out cell phones and taped the beat down, uploaded it to the internet and now the disturbing and graphic video has gone viral. >> take a look. you can see dozens of teens pummel, stomp and assault another teen with what looks like to be a cane. that 16-year-old student from south shore high school was

friday at brooklyn's emanuel baptist church. private services saturday. he was removed from life support last week. no arrests in this case. a suffolk county police officer is on the other side of the law this morning charged with hitting a motorcyclist with his car and taking off. thomas o'neill turned himself in yesterday. police say o'neill was off duty sunday night when he hit charles giardinello in ronkonkoma then left the scene. giardinello was taken to the hospital, is in critical condition. in addition to criminal charges, o'neill has been suspended without pay. scratch another name of the long list of republican candidates for president. wisconsin governor scott walker is suspending his campaign so other mainstream candidates have a better chance of knocking donald trump out of the race. >> today i believe i am being called to lead by helping to clear the field in this race so a positive conservative message can rise to the top of the

day of summer. here is what is happening. 62 degrees. dry humidity. northeast wind at 8 and pressure well above 30.00, the mark of fair weather. we have gorgeous weather out there. yesterday's high was 73. low 59. normal how about that, 73 and 59, where it should be for this time of the year. it does get hot. look at that, 95 the record high in '14. sun up at 6:43. a decent sunrise. mostly cloudy with sprinkles this morning. it will feel like fall for the last day of summer. tomorrow is going to feel like summer for the first day of fall. then we will have a close call this weekend with clouds. we are looking at a low u.v. index today. pollen count for ragweed is up to the moderate levels. this is ragweed season. if you are allergic, that's what is out there. brookhaven 66. danbury 67. mid-50s to our north and west. 62 sayreville. 63, 64 belmar down the jersey
shore to toms river. with the northeast wind again, that's come category in 6, 7 miles per hour gusting to 14. keeps it cool with the clouds. a couple of sprinkles around ulster, sullivan county, orange to dutchess, the hudson river. sprinkles riding up with this band here. this will slide eastward and dry out. then skies will start to brighten this afternoon and more of this high-pressure ridge to the west will come in and clear out the skies. you will see on futurecast, there goes the sprinkles. they are gone this morning. then you see the sun and brightening this afternoon. it will be breezy. it will be socked in most of the day, coastal connecticut, long island. tonight we clear out overnight and tomorrow a ton of sunshine and dry. it will be warm. very warm for the first day of autumn. after school,ing kiddos, cloudy, breezy, 73.

there are compartments that can be open. those compartments were tightly sealed overnight. at of 1:00 this morning, parking restrictions are in effect. many people have moved their cars. the nypd is prepared to tow any vehicles that might be parked in one of those restricted areas. by now we know providing security for pope francis is a tremendous challenge for everyone involved with the care and safety. mayor de blasio says they are prepared and they will approach the challenge beginning thursday with a great deal of confidence. >> i think we worry a little more about these special events than we need to. the city keeps going, businesses will be open, the government will be open and functioning. everything will go on as normal. in midtown special activities but otherwise everything will go on as normal. >> and here is a look at a map here. those areas in pink are where
